All RSU 21 5th graders will attend Julia Robinson Math Festival at University of New England with help from Mathematical Sciences Research Institute professionals.  The festival is a non-competitive event featuring math challenges and puzzles that require creativity and persistence to solve.  5th grade teachers, math teachers from MSK and KHS and KHS student mentors will participate as well.

The EFKA supported this program last year for K – 1 classes. In this second phase, the program is expanded to include second grade teachers, RTI tutors, Title 1 and special education staff. As part of this project, a Handwriting Without Tears representative would come to our district to present to our teaching staff (approx. 96) about the HWT program and how they could best implement their strategies into the classroom to ensure successful handwriting instruction and remediation. The grant also requests to purchase classroom tools and materials for each teacher.
